ABSTRACT
A report on the work of the ISO TC42 WG-5/AES SC03-04 Joint
Technical Committee. Formerly being conducted by the
ANSI/PIMA committee, this will provide an update on the tape and optical
media tests and the progress of care and handling guidelines. A discussion of the progress of this research
in the international context of standards and policy guidelines, incorporating
ISO, AES, SMPTE, and how they relate to the IASA, AMIA and FIAF guidelines.

Ian
Gilmour
Ian is currently
the Senior Manager of Preservation and Technical Services at the National
Screen and Sound Archive in Australia. He is also a member of SMPTE
and Chair of the AMIA Preservation Committee. Ian is in charge of
the Digitizing of the Audiovisual content at Screen Sound, and works
with the IT section to design and implement the Digital Mass Storage
and delivery system. He has worked as an engineer and conservator
at the National Library in Australia, at the Department of Defense,
and is a consultant form many AV organizations around the world.
